Open Data Engagements & Toolkit
PAN is working with partners in the Open Data South Africa initiative to host regular workshops on using data for social impact and policy action. We also maintain the open data toolkit.
Open Data Toolkit
PAN is assisting with ongoing content updates to the Open Data South Africa toolkit. This toolkit was established during 2018 as part of a collaboration involving partners associated with the Open Government Partnership, including the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA), OpenUp, the Centre for Public Service Innovation (CPSI), The Innovation Hub, Geekulcha, Open Cities Lab and the Human Sciences Research Council (represented by PAN). Ongoing interaction between the partners has led to various joint events described below, as well as input on key policy processes, such as the DPSA-led public service data management strategy.
Data Workshops and Events
PAN collaborates with various partners to support and host dataquests and hackathons. Teams of 3-5 young people from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds work with research, statistical and government administrative data to answer policy questions or to create new web/ mobile applications. Previous and planned events are focusing on a range of themes and data sources related to current policy issues. You can view examples of the programmes, questions and datasets from recent events below.
