National Spatial Development Framework
The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development has been leading a process to develop a National Spatial Development Framework (NSDF). Public input closes March 2020.
The NSDF is important because it outlines a series of interventions aimed at addressing "the unjust social, economic and spatial development pattern of wealth and privilege developed under the Apartheid system" (p.27). These interventions focus on National Spatial Action Areas (NSAA) such as the Central Innovation Belt around Gauteng and the Arid Innovation Region covering much of the Northern Cape.
The draft NSDF can be downloaded on the Parliamentary Monitoring Group (PMG) website and the opportunity to submit comments closes on 19 March 2020.
