City of Tshwane Innovation Challenge
In 2019 the City of Tshwane launched an inter-university innovation challenge with the aim of addressing service delivery issues. PAN is supporting the development of challenge briefs.
Development of challenge briefs
The City of Tshwane is partnering with local universities and innovation agencies to run the first inter-university innovation challenge. The challenge covers four policy areas critical to the City of Tshwane: electricity supply, revenue collection, waste management and public transport. Participation is open to students from the University of Pretoria, Tshwane University of Technology and the University of South Africa. Ideas and solutions coming out of the challenge process will receive support in the form of seed funding and the opportunity to demonstrate or pilot the concept in a city environment.
Each challenge is described in a 2-3 page challenge brief which outlines the problem being addressed, existing approaches and solutions of interest. PAN is assisting with the development of the challenge briefs by advising on content layout and summarising relevant policy and research material.
